VOLUNTEERS

Be part of the IACtion!

Did you know that Ilminster Arts Centre runs on people power? With over 30,000 visitors passing through its doors every year, Ilminster Arts Centre is a busy, bustling place but the Meeting House is no soulless ‘white cube’ of a gallery, it’s renowned for its friendliness - and for the legendary cheese scones served at its popular café!

With a packed programme of exhibitions, concerts, workshops and events there are many way to experience the Arts Centre - and if you’ve enjoyed it as a visitor, have you considered working there as a volunteer? It’s a wonderful way to support a valuable local amenity and to ‘be part of the action’ and there are a variety of different roles available - from stewarding in the art gallery to working in the Café as well as reception duties and retail sales on the busy welcome desk/craft shop counter.

There are many benefits to getting involved at IAC - meeting new people, job satisfaction, working in a beautiful, historic building, great work experience for your CV, free parking and a complimentary cup of delicious Fairtrade coffee when you are on duty.  Here’s what some current volunteers say they get out of being an IAC volunteer:

“I like being able to play my tiny part in keeping IAC open - it’s great fun and it’s interesting, you learn something new all the time.”

“I enjoy volunteering at the IAC because almost every week I get to meet new people, and over the years some have become firm friends.”

“Volunteering at IAC really helped me after my husband’s death - it makes me feel useful and it’s such a friendly, supportive environment.”

"One of the benefits for me of being a gallery steward is the free cup of coffee!"

“I have been helping at the Arts Centre since it opened.  I particularly enjoy sharing the beautiful space with visitors with its amazing variety of creative work and the welcoming cafe. Long may it continue!”

If you like working with people and can spare a morning or an afternoon on a regular basis, Ilminster Arts Centre would like to meet you!  Just pop in for an informal chat (no need to make an appointment), or telephone on 01460 55783.
